Words from the amazing couple about their beautiful day…
Thank you so much Steph and Dave for having me. It was an honour capturing your wedding.
How did you meet?
Dave and I met in high school and were really great friends. We didn’t start dating until after high school.
Tell me about your engagement story?
Dave proposed at our home on December 19, 2016. I didn’t see it coming as it was a regular Sunday morning for us. Dave had made us a nice breakfast and I was getting ready to go out to pick up a few things as we were having our parents over for dinner. As I was getting ready, he called me downstairs to come check out what was outside. Given that we live out in the country, i thought there was some cool wildlife in our yard! I frantically looked everywhere outside and saw nothing. I then turned around and saw him down on one knee! It was the perfect proposal and it means so much to me that it happened in our first home.
What are your top 3 best moments that happened during your wedding day and why they are your favourite?
Seeing Dave at our “first look” was one of the best parts of the day. Seeing his reaction when I walked up to him was perfect and having an intimate moment to ourselves helped ease our nerves. Our first dance! We were both quite nervous to have all eyes on us during this moment (would we mess it up?! would he step on my dress?!).
We thought a lot about the first dance song and ended up choosing “Nothing Can Change this Love” by Sam Cooke. It was such a fun song to dance to and I was presently surprised with some of Dave’s moves (like the dip and kiss!). I will never forget this moment!
Taking some time together to look out and see all of our family and friends who had come together to celebrate with us. We had family and friends travel from far (some were even traveling to Canada for the first time!) to be a part of our day. It was so amazing to feel everyone’s love and support throughout the entire day and seeing them having a great time.
What are your top favourite wedding details?
Photographer – Aleisha Boyd: Dave and I first met Aleisha at a local restaurant for a beer! After meeting with her, we knew that we wanted her to capture our wedding day. Aside from being a very talented photographer, she is fun, easy going and made us feel very comfortable in front of the camera. The pictures from our wedding day are perfect and we can’t thank Aleisha enough!
The Venue – Penryn Park: Penryn Park is an absolutely beautiful venue located in Port Hope, Ontario. The wedding coordinator, Dawn and the rest of her team were great to work with and helped us along every stage of the planning process. They were very attentive to us and our guests during our wedding day!
Flowers/Decor – Diana McCulloch Events: Diana was able to bring our vision to reality, despite not having a Pinterest board. The flowers and the decor were beautiful and exactly what we were looking for!
The Food – Personal Touch Catering & La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant: When planning our wedding, having great food was important to both Dave and I.
La Hacienda provided the appetizers and Personal Touch catered the dinner service and late night poutine bar. The food was fantastic and the staff were professional and looked after all of our guests’ needs.
A piece of advice for other couples getting married
Take a moment to look out and soak it all in! I received this piece of advice from other couples and they were absolutely right! The day goes by really fast so don’t stress over the little things. At the end all that matters is that you get to marry your best friend, surrounded by those that mean the most to you!
